Bihar Government Unveils Ambitious Plan to Restore Vikramshila Mahavihara and Boost Bhagalpur Infrastructure

In a significant announcement, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary revealed comprehensive plans to revive the historic Vikramshila Mahavihara, drawing inspiration from the successful model of Nalanda University. The declaration was made during Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's ongoing Samriddhi Yatra, highlighting a series of transformative infrastructure and development initiatives specifically targeted at the Bhagalpur division.

Major Infrastructure Projects Announced for Bhagalpur and Banka Districts

Addressing a public gathering, Deputy CM Choudhary detailed several high-impact projects designed to modernize connectivity and stimulate economic growth in the region. The centerpiece of these proposals includes the establishment of a new greenfield airport in Bhagalpur, coupled with the upgradation of the existing old airfield into an additional airport facility. This dual-airport strategy is poised to significantly enhance air travel accessibility for residents across the Bhagalpur division.

Furthermore, a metro rail project is under active consideration for Bhagalpur city, aiming to provide efficient urban transportation and reduce traffic congestion. In a move to bolster both tourism and local infrastructure, plans were announced for the construction of a scenic Marine Drive along the banks of the Ganga River in Bhagalpur.

Agricultural and Water Supply Enhancements

Recognizing the agricultural needs of the area, Choudhary also outlined a crucial irrigation initiative. The state government intends to supply Ganga water to the Hanumana Dam located in the Belhar block of Banka district. This project is expected to improve water availability for farming, thereby supporting local agriculture and enhancing food security in the region.

Praise for Bihar's Developmental Progress Under Current Leadership

Reflecting on Bihar's journey over the past two decades, Deputy CM Choudhary credited the state's remarkable transformation to the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, with steadfast support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He contrasted the pre-2005 era, marked by severe deficiencies in basic amenities such as schools, hospitals, roads, reliable electricity, and safe drinking water, with the present-day improvements that have fundamentally altered the state's infrastructure landscape.

"Before 2005, Bihar suffered a profound lack of basic conveniences, but now the situation has changed dramatically," Choudhary emphasized, underscoring the government's commitment to sustained development and public welfare.

The revival of Vikramshila Mahavihara, alongside these extensive infrastructure projects, represents a holistic approach to preserving cultural heritage while driving modern economic growth in Bhagalpur and its surrounding districts.
