BJP Delegation Raises Alarm Over Alleged Illegal Boundary Pillar in Mizoram

A two-member delegation from the Bharatiya Janata Party's Chakma Autonomous District Council unit submitted a formal representation to Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh on Monday, raising serious concerns about what they describe as an illegal and provocative boundary marker installation.

Delegation Composition and Allegations

The delegation comprised Durjya Dhan Chakma, district president of BJP CADC, and Doyal Chandra Dewan, vice-president of the party's council unit. In a detailed press statement released following their meeting with the governor, the BJP CADC outlined their grievances regarding actions taken by the Central Young Lai Association.

According to the party's account, CYLA members visited Parva village under CADC jurisdiction on February 13 and erected a boundary pillar declaring the area as belonging to the Lai Autonomous District Council. The BJP has characterized this move as unilateral and inflammatory, stating it has already triggered significant resentment and condemnation among residents of the Chakma Autonomous District Council.

Historical Context and Constitutional Concerns

Durjya Dhan Chakma emphasized that the act was both unwarranted and highly provocative, warning that such actions could potentially disturb the long-standing peaceful coexistence and brotherhood between the Chakma and Lai communities that has been carefully maintained for decades.

"Boundary-related issues must be resolved through proper constitutional and administrative mechanisms, not through unilateral actions by any organization," Chakma stated firmly during the representation.

The BJP statement provided historical context, noting that during the period of 1972–1977, following the reorganization of the Pawi-Lakher Autonomous Region, a joint boundary verification was conducted between CADC and LADC. At that time, the then chief executive member of CADC, Nilmoni Chakma, represented the council during the demarcation process, and no disputes were reported.

The eastern boundary was specifically defined in the Pawi-Lakher Autonomous Region (Re-organisation) Order of 1972, following the natural boundary marked by the stream Sanghatuilo Lui (known as Rangapanisora in Chakma), supported by Survey Height Point 405.

Appeal for Government Intervention

The BJP delegation has urgently appealed to Governor Vijay Kumar Singh to order a thorough investigation into the matter and take immediate steps to remove what they term the illegally erected boundary pillar to prevent any escalation of tension between communities.

The party has also made a broader appeal to all sections of society to maintain peace, harmony, and communal unity while the competent authorities address this sensitive matter through proper channels.

Governor's Response and Assurance

According to the BJP statement, Governor Vijay Kumar Singh gave the delegation a patient hearing and assured them that necessary steps would be taken at the earliest possible opportunity to address their concerns and investigate the allegations thoroughly.

The representation highlights the delicate nature of inter-community relations in the region and underscores the importance of following established constitutional procedures when addressing territorial and administrative matters in autonomous district councils.
