A political controversy erupted in Rajarhat-Gopalpur on Thursday after government relief materials were allegedly recovered from the office of former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Aditi Munshi. The incident unfolded following a tip-off that led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Tarunjyoti Tewari to visit the premises near the Baguiati bus stand. During the search, items meant for public distribution, including tarpaulins, sarees, and dhotis, were reportedly found in multiple rooms. Tewari alleged that these goods were being stored illegally, alongside intoxicating substances.
Allegations of Weapons and Document Caches
Further allegations surfaced that document caches and weapons were recovered from the nearby office of Indranath Bagui, a close associate of former Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) councillor Debraj Chakraborty. The BJP leader claimed that these findings pointed to a larger network of misappropriation of public resources.
Political Reactions
The TMC has not yet officially responded to the allegations. However, local party workers dismissed the claims as politically motivated, accusing the BJP of staging a drama ahead of upcoming elections. The incident has intensified the political rivalry in the region, with both parties trading charges.
Authorities are expected to investigate the matter further. Meanwhile, the recovery of relief materials has raised questions about the storage and distribution of government supplies in the area.
