BJP national president Nitin Nabin, during a three-day visit to Punjab, instructed senior party leaders and office-bearers to avoid making any public statements regarding a potential alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). In a strategic meeting held on Monday in Ludhiana, Nabin emphasized that any decision on an alliance would be made solely by the party high command.
Focus on Grassroots Strengthening
Nabin urged party leaders and workers to concentrate on strengthening the BJP's grassroots network by mobilizing booth-level workers and expanding the cadre base across Punjab. He stressed the importance of launching an intensive outreach campaign to connect with households and highlight the policies and development initiatives of the Narendra Modi government, while also exposing what the party describes as the failures and misgovernance of the current state government.
Key Attendees at the Meeting
The meeting, held at a hotel near the Ludhiana Bus Stand, was attended by prominent BJP figures including Rajya Sabha MPs Raghav Chadha and RK Gupta (Trident Group), BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh, national vice-president Saudan Singh, Ashwani Sharma, Sunil Jakhar, Narinder Ramoowalia, and Iqbal Singh Lalpura. Former ministers and legislators such as Vijay Sampla, Manoranjan Kalia, Avinash Rai Khanna, Manpreet Singh Badal, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, Tikshan Sood, and Arunesh Shankar were also present.
Internal Feedback from Party Leaders
A senior BJP leader who attended the meeting stated that the party chief's primary focus was on organizational strengthening from the grassroots level. "The president has asked party leaders and workers to step out of their comfort zones and launch an intensive grassroots outreach campaign. His emphasis was that every BJP worker should reach households across Punjab, highlight the policies and development initiatives of the Narendra Modi government, and expose what the party describes as the failures and misgovernance of the present state government," the leader said.
Clear Message from National Leadership
Party insiders indicated that the message from the national leadership was unequivocal: focus on organizational strengthening and public outreach while leaving alliance-related decisions to the central leadership. Political observers view this meeting as part of the BJP's broader strategy to test its organizational strength independently and position itself as a stronger electoral force in Punjab ahead of the assembly polls expected in 2027.
