BJP Demands CBI Investigation into Punjab Official's Alleged Suicide
In a significant development from Chandigarh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has formally demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged suicide of Dr Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, an official with the Punjab State Warehousing Corporation. Ashwani Sharma, the working state president of the BJP, described the death of the official as "a major shock" and asserted that justice would be impossible without an independent investigation by the CBI. Sharma made explosive claims that Punjab Transport and Jails Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar had applied for a warehouse tender in his father Sukhdev Singh Bhullar's name and began exerting pressure when the proposal could not be cleared according to established guidelines.
"The deceased official was subjected to humiliation and threats," Sharma alleged during his statement to media representatives. "The situation escalated to such an extent that threats were issued against the official's family members as well."
Escalating Demands for Justice
The BJP leader emphasized that the party stands firmly with the bereaved family and members of the employees' union during this difficult time. Sharma made a direct appeal to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, urging him to order an immediate CBI inquiry into the matter to ensure the truth emerges without any political interference.
In addition to the CBI probe demand, Sharma called for the constitution of a special medical board to conduct the post-mortem examination, specifically to rule out any irregularities in the investigation process. "Merely seeking his resignation would not suffice," Sharma declared, demanding that the minister concerned be booked on serious charges, including abetment to suicide.

BJP state president Sunil Jakhar has also expressed profound sorrow over the suicide of the district manager of Punjab State Warehouse Corporation in Amritsar. While addressing the media, Jakhar made it clear that "the BJP will fight at every level to ensure justice for the victim's family."
Jakhar called for immediate registration of a case against Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar and demanded his arrest in connection with the incident. The BJP leader expressed surprise over Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's statement that the probe would be handed over to the chief secretary, questioning "since when the chief secretary has been investigating such cases."
