The opposition BJP in Karnataka has raised concerns over the delayed payments under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme for the months of February and March 2025. The party urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to clear the pending arrears before stepping down from his position. The BJP and its ally had previously staged a walkout in protest on December 17, highlighting the urgency of the matter.
Background of the Issue
The Gruha Lakshmi scheme, a flagship initiative of the Karnataka government, provides financial assistance to women heads of households. However, beneficiaries have reportedly not received payments for two months, causing distress among families reliant on this support. The BJP has accused the ruling Congress government of neglecting the welfare of women and failing to ensure timely disbursement.
Political Reactions
Senior BJP leader S Suresh Kumar criticized the government, stating, "The delay in payments is unacceptable. The Chief Minister must ensure that all arrears are cleared before he leaves office." The opposition has demanded immediate action, warning of further protests if the issue is not resolved promptly.
The Congress government, however, has not yet issued an official response to the allegations. The scheme, which was launched with much fanfare, has faced implementation challenges in the past, but this is the first time such a significant delay has been reported.
As the political tussle continues, families awaiting the funds are left in uncertainty. The BJP has vowed to keep the pressure on the government until all pending payments are made.
