The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled eight office-bearers in Sonipat for a period of six years for contesting against the party's candidates in the local municipal corporation (MC) elections. According to a communication issued by the party's district office, the expelled functionaries defied the party line by entering the fray as independents and engaging in activities deemed detrimental to the organisation's interests.
Party cites gross indiscipline
The party termed their actions as 'gross indiscipline' and a violation of its core ideological and organisational framework. BJP Sonipat president Ashok Bhardwaj said no individual was above the party. 'Such acts not only weaken the party structure, but also go against its principles. Strict action is necessary to maintain discipline,' he said.
List of expelled leaders
The expelled leaders include Mukesh Batra (Ward 13), Kiran Bala (Ward 20), Rajendra Pal Singh (Ward 12), Pawan Taneja (Ward 15), Joginder Prajapat (Ward 22), Puneet Rathi (Ward 8), Deepak Chawla (Ward 13), and Brahmjeet Singh (Ward 20). Many of them have previously held organisational responsibilities within the party.
The BJP's decision underscores its commitment to maintaining party discipline and ensuring that all members adhere to the party's directives. The expulsion is effective immediately and will last for six years, barring these individuals from holding any party position or contesting elections on a BJP ticket during this period.
