A tragic sequence of events stemming from a family dispute over financial matters has led to the death of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader in Karnataka's Davangere district. The incident, which unfolded over the weekend, has sent shockwaves through the local community.
The Tragic Sequence of Events
Chandrashekar Sankola, a 56-year-old former BJP corporator and resident of Shamanur village, allegedly died by suicide on Sunday morning. The police investigation reveals that the tragedy was preceded by a heated argument Sankola had with his two children over the phone on Saturday night. The dispute reportedly centered on pressing financial issues within the family.
The argument took a devastating turn when Sankola's son, 20-year-old Naresh, and daughter, 23-year-old Pavithra, allegedly attempted suicide following the altercation. Upon learning of this, Chandrashekar Sankola returned home and immediately rushed both his children to a hospital for medical treatment.
The Fatal Aftermath
After ensuring his children were admitted to the hospital, Sankola's actions took a final, tragic course. He drove his car to Bisleri village, approximately 10 kilometers away, where he owned a farm. It was there, in his vehicle, that he is believed to have set himself on fire.
Local police in Bisleri received information about a body found inside a car on Sunday morning. They promptly arrived at the scene and identified the victim as Chandrashekar Sankola. The Hadadi police station has registered a case and is continuing its probe into the circumstances.
Police Investigation and Statements
Uma Prashanth, the Superintendent of Police for Davangere, provided details on the case. "Prima facie, it looks like a suicide. We are further investigating the case," Prashanth stated. She also updated on the condition of Sankola's children, noting that Naresh is now out of danger, but Pavithra remains in a critical condition.
While the investigation is ongoing, preliminary findings point to severe financial distress as a potential catalyst for the family's extreme actions. The police are meticulously examining all angles to understand the full context of this heartbreaking incident that has left one dead and two fighting for their lives.
