BJP MLA Seeks White Paper on Thane Property Department

BJP MLA Demands Transparency in Thane Municipal Property Management

BJP MLA Sanjay Kelkar has formally requested a comprehensive 'white paper' from the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) regarding the operations of its property department. This demand comes amid serious allegations of irregularities in the utilization and leasing of civic properties across the city.

Meeting with Municipal Commissioner Addresses Multiple Civic Concerns

Kelkar raised this critical issue during a detailed meeting with Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao on Tuesday. According to an official release from his office, the discussion covered a wide range of civic matters that require immediate attention and resolution.

The MLA alleged that the TMC's property department manages hundreds of civic properties, many of which are reportedly being misused or rented out without proper transparency and accountability. He insisted that these properties should be reclaimed promptly, with notices served to all involved parties. Furthermore, Kelkar demanded the publication of a detailed white paper that would clearly outline the department's complete assets and all related financial transactions.

In response to these serious allegations, Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao directed the concerned officials to take appropriate and swift action on the matter to ensure proper oversight and management.

Additional Civic Issues Raised by the BJP Leader

Beyond property irregularities, Kelkar highlighted several other pressing concerns affecting Thane residents:

  • Contract Workers' Plight: He alleged that contractors employed by the civic body are exploiting workers by failing to pay minimum wages and not providing mandatory facilities as required by law.
  • Pending Inheritance Cases: Kelkar pointed to the large backlog of inheritance rights (heirship transfer) cases and urged the civic administration to ensure their early and efficient disposal to provide relief to affected families.
  • Colour Museum Project: The BJP leader pressed for expediting the proposed 'Colour Museum' project in Thane, stating that a world-class facility could significantly enhance the city's cultural landscape. He revealed that he has been consistently pursuing this project for the past year and called for immediate steps to advance its development.
  • 2017 Tree Fall Incident: Kelkar raised the tragic 2017 incident in which a local resident died after a tree fell on him. He noted that despite prior assurances, the deceased's wife has not yet been provided the promised job in the municipal corporation. Commissioner Rao took note of this issue and directed officials to act promptly to fulfill the commitment.
  • Hawker Policy Enforcement: The MLA sought strict implementation of the hawker policy, claiming that in the absence of proper enforcement, unauthorized hawkers have proliferated across the city. This has left little space on roads and footpaths for pedestrians, creating significant inconvenience and safety hazards.

These comprehensive discussions underscore the BJP MLA's ongoing efforts to address systemic issues within Thane's civic administration and improve governance for all residents.
