BJP MLA Surendra Maithani Stops Silt Dumping at Kanpur Ghat

A video of BJP MLA from Kanpur, Surendra Maithani, went viral on social media on Monday. In the clip, the MLA is seen scolding irrigation department staff and officials over the phone after learning that silt removed during canal cleaning was being dumped near the Chhathi Maiya Ghat at Ravidaspuram, Gujaini. Times News Network did not confirm the video's authenticity.

The canal desilting activity was being handled by the irrigation department. Arrangements were made to deposit the removed silt close to the platform (bedi) built at the ghat. As soon as he received this information, the MLA spoke on the phone with local people present at the site, gathered details, and issued a warning to the employees who had brought Poklands and to the departmental officers that any interference with the religious site would not be tolerated.

In the video, the MLA can be heard saying, "Leave from here immediately. I am out of the city. Do not tamper with the ghat and our faith. No silt will be allowed to be dumped at the ghat." Speaking on the phone, he added, "This ghat is for Chhathi Maiya worship. No silt should fall here."
