The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday released a detailed chargesheet against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab, leveling a series of allegations ranging from corruption to unfulfilled electoral promises. The chargesheet was unveiled by BJP state president Sunil Jakhar at a press conference in Chandigarh.
Allegations of Corruption
The BJP accused the AAP government of widespread corruption in the allocation of contracts and appointments. Jakhar claimed that the AAP had indulged in 'contractor raj' and that key decisions were taken to benefit party insiders. He cited specific instances where contracts were allegedly awarded at inflated rates.
Unfulfilled Promises
The chargesheet also highlighted several promises made by the AAP during the 2022 assembly elections that remain unfulfilled. These include the promise of 300 units of free electricity, a monthly honorarium for housewives, and the construction of 'Mohalla Clinics'. The BJP argued that the AAP had misled the voters.
Jakhar further alleged that the AAP government had failed to tackle the drug menace and improve law and order in the state. He pointed to rising incidents of crime and the lack of action against drug peddlers as evidence of the government's failure.
Political Response
Reacting to the chargesheet, AAP spokesperson Malvinder Singh Kang dismissed the allegations as baseless and politically motivated. He accused the BJP of resorting to dirty tactics ahead of the upcoming elections. Kang asserted that the AAP government had delivered on its promises and that the chargesheet was a sign of desperation.
The release of the chargesheet comes at a time when political temperatures are rising in Punjab, with all major parties gearing up for the next assembly elections. The BJP, which is part of the opposition alliance, is seeking to regain lost ground in the state.
