Chandigarh: Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon on Monday demanded the immediate resignation of chief minister Bhagwant Mann after the Akal Takht declared him a "Guru Dokhi" and "Khalsa Panth Virodhi".
In a statement, Dhillon said the Akal Takht, the highest temporal authority of Sikhs, had issued the declaration in connection with the controversial video allegedly showing liquor being sprinkled on an image of the Guru Sahibs and had directed members of the Sikh community not to associate with Mann.
Dhillon said the declaration carried serious social and moral implications and could place Sikh ministers and officials in an uncomfortable position.
He claimed the development could affect the government's administrative functioning and decision-making process and was not in the interest of Punjab.
"Considering the seriousness of the matter, chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann should accept moral responsibility and immediately resign from his office," Dhillon said.
