In a significant move towards participatory democracy, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has initiated a citywide campaign in Nagpur, directly inviting residents to contribute to its election manifesto for the upcoming Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) polls. The campaign, titled 'Suggestions from Nagpurkars, Commitment from the BJP', was officially launched on Tuesday.
Leaders Unveil Public Participation Drive
The initiative was formally unveiled at an event attended by top party leadership. The launch saw the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. They were joined by Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, MLA Pravin Datke, BJP city president Dayashankar Tiwari, organisation minister Upendra Kothekar, and state vice-president Sanjay Bhende.
This outreach underscores the party's stated focus on "development through public participation." Party leaders emphasized that the manifesto for the crucial civic polls will not be drafted behind closed doors but will be a product of direct citizen engagement.
How Nagpurkars Can Submit Their Ideas
The core of the campaign is a digital platform designed to gather input from every section of society. The BJP has provided a dedicated QR code and an online link (https://tinyurl.com/BjpNagpurSankalpPatra2026) through which residents can submit their suggestions and feedback directly to the party's leadership.
The party is specifically encouraging youth, students, women, workers, salaried employees, professionals, traders, and those active in social sectors to share their expectations for building what the BJP terms a "modern Nagpur." The platform also aims to capture unresolved technical issues and local civic problems, especially in the city's rapidly expanding neighbourhoods.
Building on a Development Narrative
BJP leaders highlighted that Nagpur has emerged as one of Maharashtra's fastest-growing cities, crediting major infrastructure projects completed during their tenure. These projects range from upgraded roads and public utilities to the expanding Metro network.
The current campaign aims to broaden this development narrative. Dayashankar Tiwari, the BJP city president, appealed for maximum participation, stating, "For building a prosperous and aspirational Nagpur, aware citizens must come forward and share their ideas and suggestions with us through the link. This will help make future Nagpur stronger and more people-centric."
The party has assured that all constructive suggestions will be examined in detail and suitably incorporated into the final election manifesto. The entire exercise is being coordinated by the BJP's manifesto committee led by ex-MLC Girish Vyas, with Ram Munje assisting in its execution.
Beyond being a simple feedback tool, party functionaries describe the initiative as a strong political signal. It underscores the BJP's intent to frame the upcoming civic election around themes of governance, continuity of development, and fostering a sense of citizen ownership over the city's future priorities.
