BJP Spokesperson Condemns Telangana CM's Remarks on Democracy and Delimitation

In a sharp critique, BJP Telangana spokesperson Rani Rudrama on Monday lambasted Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for what she described as viewing democracy through the lens of a real estate business. She accused him of reducing national governance to a mere profit-and-loss calculation, labeling this perspective as a dangerous mindset that threatens foundational principles.

Rights and Representation Not Based on Economic Metrics

Addressing a press conference in Hyderabad, Rudrama emphasized that constitutional rights are not contingent on income levels, and parliamentary seats should not be allocated based on GDP figures. She asserted that, as per the Constitution, every citizen—whether a millionaire or impoverished—holds an equal vote, a fundamental tenet of democratic governance.

Her comments were a direct response to CM Revanth Reddy's proposal that delimitation—the process of redrawing electoral boundaries—should be based on Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP). Rudrama argued that such an approach could lead to inequitable representation, questioning whether regions like Adilabad, Mulugu, and Bhupalpally might be left without adequate political voice, or if areas such as the Old City of Hyderabad could be marginalized.

Allegations of Diverting Resources and Blocking Women's Reservation

Further escalating her criticism, Rudrama claimed that people in Telangana are observing a diversion of state resources toward other political needs, undermining local development. She alleged that "hybrid formulas" and new arguments are being advanced with the explicit aim of preventing the implementation of women's reservation in politics, thereby obstructing opportunities for women to gain rightful representation.

She highlighted that if delimitation occurs, the number of Lok Sabha seats could potentially increase from 543 to 816, presenting a significant opportunity to allocate 272 of those seats to women through reserved quotas. However, Rudrama accused the Congress party of intending to block such legislation, even if introduced by the central government in Parliament, thereby denying women their constitutional entitlements.

Political Agenda and Public Backlash

Rudrama alleged that CM Revanth Reddy is being used as a front to drive a political agenda under the guise of representing south India's interests. She warned that such actions, which she claims undermine the aspirations of women across the nation, will not go unnoticed, and the public will respond decisively to these maneuvers.

The spokesperson's remarks underscore ongoing tensions in Telangana's political landscape, with debates over delimitation and women's reservation taking center stage. As these issues unfold, they are likely to influence broader discussions on democratic representation and gender equality in Indian politics.
