BJP Statewide Protests Against Congress Over Champawat Case

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday declared statewide protests against the Congress party, accusing the opposition of disseminating false information regarding the Champawat case. Police have since stated that the alleged gang rape of a minor girl did not occur.

BJP Mahila Morcha's Accusations

Ruchi Bhatt, state president of the BJP Mahila Morcha, asserted that Congress and other opposition parties are attempting to mislead women, youth, and society by politicizing the incident. She stated that efforts are being made to give a political angle to the Champawat case to tarnish the reputation of the BJP government and its organization.

Planned Protest Activities

The BJP Mahila Morcha announced that it will organize press conferences and effigy-burning programs across all 13 districts of Uttarakhand from May 9 to 11. These actions aim to protest what the party describes as attempts by the opposition to harm the BJP's image and disrupt peace in the state.

Bhatt further alleged that opposition parties are deliberately fostering an environment of disorder in Uttarakhand. She emphasized that the BJP has consistently upheld women's honor, security, and justice, while accusing Congress of repeatedly exploiting women's sentiments for political advantage.

Senior members of the Mahila Morcha have been assigned district-wise responsibilities to lead the protests effectively.

Congress Response

In response to the BJP's allegations, Congress state chief spokesperson Garima Dasauni claimed that the law and order situation in Uttarakhand has reached an all-time low. She noted that Congress has been staging protests across the state regarding the law and order crisis, drawing large public support. Dasauni accused the BJP of attempting to mislead people through its protests and asserted that instead of improving conditions, the BJP is more focused on blaming Congress for the current state of affairs.
