BJP Leader's Emotional Appeal to Lalu Prasad Yadav
In a dramatic political development, BJP Bihar president Dilip Jaiswal made an emotional appeal to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi on Sunday, urging them to protect their family from disintegration. This came hours after their daughter Rohini Acharya announced she was quitting politics and severing ties with her family.
Jaiswal expressed deep concern about the growing rift within the prominent political family, stating he had seen television reports about Acharya's decision. "As Rohini Acharya has said, she was beaten... the daughter who donated a kidney to save Lalu ji's life is now being thrown out, it is painful," Jaiswal remarked during his media interaction in Patna.
Rohini Acharya's Sudden Exit from Politics
The family crisis erupted on Saturday when Rohini Acharya, who gained national attention for donating a kidney to her father in December 2022, took to social media platform X to announce her departure from politics. In her post, she declared she was "disowning" her family and stated: "This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez had asked me to do, and I am taking all the blame."
The announcement came just one day after the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan suffered defeat in the Bihar Assembly polls, adding to the party's troubles. Acharya, who had contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Saran constituency, lost to BJP's Rajiv Pratap Rudy by more than 13,000 votes.
Political Reactions and Family Tensions
While the BJP leader expressed sympathy for Rohini Acharya, JD(U) MLC Khalid Anwar took a different stance. He questioned her political credentials and timing of the family dispute becoming public. "Why did Rohini Acharya come from Singapore to do politics in Bihar? Who invited her into politics?" Anwar asked during his reaction to the development.
This isn't the first sign of trouble within the RJD's first family. Last month, Acharya had unfollowed both Lalu Prasad and her brother Tejashwi Yadav on X after posting critical remarks about Sanjay Yadav's growing influence in the party. Sanjay Yadav, a Rajya Sabha MP, works closely with Tejashwi Yadav, while Rameez has been described as a long-time friend of the former deputy chief minister.
