BJP legislature party leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy on Wednesday issued a stern warning to the Telangana government, threatening to launch an agitation alongside farmers and dump all grain stocks at Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy's residence if the administration fails to procure the remaining paddy. He accused the Congress government of betraying farmers by not fulfilling promises made during the Assembly elections.
Allegations of Betrayal
Addressing a press conference, Reddy stated that farmers are facing severe hardships due to delays in procurement and inadequate arrangements. He claimed that Telangana produced 1.41 crore metric tonnes of paddy, but the government reduced procurement targets to about 64 lakh metric tonnes. As a result, paddy stocks are piling up, forcing farmers to guard their produce in harsh conditions. Reddy challenged the chief minister to a public debate on issues like paddy procurement and state finances, expressing readiness to back his claims with facts.
Housing and Irrigation Issues
On housing, Reddy accused the government of making misleading claims about constructing one lakh houses, asserting that much of the funding came from the Centre. He also criticised the handling of major irrigation projects and the state's financial management, stating that the Congress government is pushing Telangana into a financial crisis due to excessive borrowing.
Reddy's remarks come amid growing discontent among farmers over delayed procurement, which has left many struggling to sell their produce. The BJP leader's warning signals a potential escalation of protests if the government does not address the issue promptly.
