BJP's Bikram Thakur Says Local Polls Show Public Disenchantment with Congress
BJP's Bikram Thakur: Local Polls Show Disenchantment with Congress

Former Industries Minister and BJP MLA Bikram Thakur on Monday stated that the party's strong performance in the recent local body elections reflects growing public disillusionment with the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh.

Historic Mandate for BJP

Thanking voters for what he termed a "historic mandate," Thakur said the results clearly show widespread dissatisfaction with the policies and unfulfilled promises of the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led administration. He highlighted that the massive support for the BJP is a clear verdict against the state government's governance.

Thakur criticized the Chief Minister for downplaying the results, asserting that in a democracy, the people are supreme. Instead of respecting the verdict, the Congress leadership is trying to minimize it, he added.

Key Wins in Municipal Corporations

Highlighting the BJP's wins, the Jaswan-Paragpur MLA noted that the party secured three of the four municipal corporations up for election — Mandi, Dharamshala, and Solan. He added that BJP-backed candidates also saw strong turnouts in the Zila Parishad, Block Development Committee (BDC), and panchayat polls.

Thakur stated that voter pushback was driven by critical issues, including rising unemployment, stalled development projects, financial mismanagement, and unfulfilled promises to government employees.

The BJP's performance in these local body elections is being seen as a significant indicator of public sentiment ahead of future state elections. Political analysts note that the results could impact the Congress government's standing and prompt introspection within the party.
