NEW DELHI: In the 2026 Assam assembly elections, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Mrinal Saikia emerged victorious from the Khumtai constituency, defeating Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Roselina Tirkey by a significant margin of 58,412 votes.

The Khumtai Assembly constituency had a total of 171,697 registered voters on the electoral rolls for the 2026 election. Among these, 84,124 were male, 87,568 were female, and 5 belonged to the third gender.

In the 2021 Assam Assembly elections, the constituency had 141,259 registered voters, with 116,233 valid votes cast. Then too, BJP candidate Mrinal Saikia won the seat with 65,655 votes, while Congress candidate Bismita Gogoi finished second with 38,522 votes, losing by a margin of 27,133 votes.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, Khumtai had 120,648 electors, with 104,267 valid votes recorded. BJP candidate Mrinal Saikia again won the seat with 57,637 votes, defeating Congress candidate Bismita Gogoi, who secured 40,763 votes.
