BL Santosh's Manipur Visit Hints at Political Changes

High-Level BJP Delegation Heads to Manipur for Crucial Meetings

Former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has indicated that BJP national general secretary BL Santosh's upcoming visit to the state carries significant political weight, suggesting it's more than just a routine political tour. The visit comes amid growing demands for reinstating a popular government in the northeastern state.

BL Santosh, accompanied by the BJP's northeast coordinator Sambit Patra, is scheduled to arrive in Manipur on Wednesday and will remain in the state for two to three days, according to official sources. This extended stay has fueled speculation about substantial political developments in the offing.

Political Significance Behind the Visit

Speaking to reporters in Imphal on Monday, Singh emphasized the importance of Santosh's visit, noting that the party leader is visiting Manipur after a considerable gap. "It will not be a simple visit. Let's hope for the best," Singh remarked, clearly hinting at the political purpose behind the high-level delegation's trip.

The former CM indicated that the BJP's central leadership must be planning something substantial for Manipur, given the timing and composition of the visiting team. The visit occurs against the backdrop of ongoing political uncertainties in the state that have kept political observers and citizens alike on edge.

Preparations and Previous Assurances

In preparation for the important visit, BJP state unit president A Sharda Devi convened a meeting of office bearers at the party office Thambal Shanglen in Imphal. The gathering focused on discussing and planning upcoming party programs, ensuring everything is in place for the high-profile visitors.

This development follows last month's meeting in Delhi where BJP legislators from Manipur met with Santosh and Patra. During those discussions, the state leaders received assurances that a popular ministry would be reinstated in Manipur soon, and the Centre does not plan to further extend the President's rule currently imposed in the state.

Signs of Normalcy Returning

In a positive development indicating returning stability, the relief camp operated by BJP Manipur Pradesh at Youth Hostel, Khuman Lampak, specifically established for pregnant women fleeing conflict, was closed on Monday. The closure coincided with the 'Epan Thaba' or Swasti Puja ceremony for a newborn at the camp.

N Biren Singh, who attended the ceremony, expressed optimism about the state's situation, stating that Manipur is gradually returning to normalcy. He offered prayers for the complete restoration of peace and normalcy at the earliest possible time, signaling hope for the state's future.

The upcoming visit by the BJP national leadership team is being closely watched by political circles across the region, with many expecting concrete steps toward political resolution in Manipur following their deliberations with state leaders and functionaries.
