The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) T-ward office carried out a demolition drive on Tuesday, removing 150 unauthorised residential and commercial structures in Amar Nagar, Khindipada. These structures were obstructing the construction of the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road, a crucial infrastructure project that will connect the eastern and western suburbs of Mumbai.
Details of the Demolition Drive
The demolition targeted structures within the T Ward limits that were found to be illegally built and hindering the progress of the link road. According to BMC officials, approximately 384 unauthorised structures in Amar Nagar, Khindipada, were identified as obstacles. Of these, around 150 commercial and residential buildings were demolished on Tuesday. The remaining 234 structures are scheduled to be removed next week.
Goregaon-Mulund Link Road Project
The Goregaon-Mulund Link Road is a 12.20-kilometre-long project designed to ease traffic congestion between the eastern and western parts of Mumbai. The project is being executed in four phases, which include the construction of roads, an underground tunnel, flyovers, and other associated works. The removal of these unauthorised structures is a critical step in ensuring the timely completion of the project.
The BMC has emphasised that the demolition drive is part of its ongoing efforts to clear encroachments and facilitate major infrastructure developments in the city. The remaining structures will be removed in the coming days to allow uninterrupted construction of the link road.
