The Balochistan National Party (BNP) has initiated widespread demonstrations across Quetta and other regions of Balochistan, leveling accusations against state security forces of escalating repression, including enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings.
Trigger for the Protests
The protests were sparked by a reported security operation at the residence of senior BNP leader Sardar Naseer Ahmed Musiyani in Zehri. According to BNP Central Senior Vice President Sajid Tareen Advocate, the raid followed an armed clash between Baloch fighters and Pakistani forces in the Balbal area of Zehri. Subsequently, security personnel arrived at Sardar Naseer's house in 10 to 12 vehicles and took him away along with his sons, as reported by The Balochistan Post.
Alleged Casualties and Detentions
The raid allegedly resulted in the deaths of his son, Khaleel Musiyani, and Umair Sumalani, while several family members were detained, as cited in an ANI report. BNP activists, supporters, and senior party leaders gathered outside the Quetta Press Club and other locations on Saturday to condemn what they described as a continuing pattern of human rights violations in the province. Party representatives claimed that security personnel stormed Musiyani's residence, assaulted family members, killed Khaleel Musiyani, and took several relatives and associates into custody. They asserted that such incidents reflect a broader pattern of state repression in the region.
Political Criticism and Demands
BNP leaders called for a transparent and independent investigation into the deaths. They demanded accountability for those responsible and urged an immediate end to what they described as unlawful detentions and targeted violence. The party reiterated its commitment to democratic and constitutional politics under the leadership of Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal.
Warning of Consequences
The BNP warned that if the use of force and retaliatory actions against political leaders and workers were not stopped, the government and relevant institutions would bear responsibility for any public reaction and the ensuing situation. The party announced protests outside press clubs across Balochistan and stated that it would hold a meeting to decide its next course of action.
