Former chief minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai on Friday said development works in the Shiggaon-Savanur constituency had contributed to peace and harmony, adding that all achievements were by God's grace, with people merely acting as instruments.
He was speaking at Hosuru village in Shiggaon taluk during the inauguration of the Eeranna Devara Temple and the installation of a new idol. Bommai described Hosuru-Yatanalli as a politically conscious village that had displayed maturity and vision, and noted healthy competition among three villages for development. He said it was a matter of pride that people had come together for progress, adding that he had not initially imagined such works would take place there.
Development and Welfare Initiatives
Claiming that over 500 temples were built in the constituency, Bommai said it was his good fortune to be associated with the projects. Referring to the lake-filling scheme, he said water was supplied from the Varada River to lakes from Hosuru-Yatanalli to Tadas and further up to Savanur, though the project once seemed impossible. He also said around 15,000 houses were built after floods, mainly for the poor and farmers.
Recalling his tenure as chief minister, Bommai said welfare measures were prioritised in his first cabinet meeting, including the launch of the Raitha Vidyanidhi scheme for farmers' children. Stressing humility, he said people should not be arrogant about achievements.
Temple Renovation and Future Plans
He described the Eeranna Temple of Chowki Mutt as ancient and said further works, including the temple tower, would be taken up. Of the Rs 50 lakh sanctioned for the project, he said Rs 25 lakh was yet to be released. The event highlighted the collaborative spirit among villages and the importance of infrastructure and religious projects in fostering community harmony.
