Former Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai Condemns State Government's 1,000-Day Convention
In a sharp critique, former chief minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai has alleged that the Karnataka government organized a convention in Haveri on Saturday to mark 1,000 days in power, which he described as showcasing 'zero achievements'. The event, held over the weekend, has sparked controversy with Bommai claiming it was nothing more than a celebration of corruption.
Bommai's Allegations of Corruption and Economic Burden
Bommai stated in a post on X that the government realized people would not attend voluntarily, so they orchestrated a program to distribute title deeds to individuals living on government land in rural areas. 'In fact, it's a convention celebrating corruption, and the government is striking a blow by placing an economic burden on poor people,' he asserted.
He contrasted this with the previous BJP government's approach, where they regularized unauthorized properties and established a system allowing beneficiaries to access loans. Now, however, the current government has introduced a scheme where people are forced to purchase their own property, with registration fees imposed at sub-registrars' offices to refill the emptied treasury. This has resulted in poor individuals being compelled to pay 3-4 lakh rupees, according to Bommai.
Claims of Large-Scale Corruption in Revenue Department
Further escalating his accusations, Bommai alleged that large-scale corruption is occurring within the revenue department to implement this new system. 'This was a convention celebrating corruption,' he reiterated, emphasizing that the event highlighted wasteful governance rather than progress.
He also pointed out that no houses are being constructed in the state under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, adding to his critique of the administration's failures. The convention, he concluded, was merely a 'zero-achievement' gathering that has left the poor cursing the current leadership.
Bommai's remarks underscore growing political tensions in Karnataka, with the opposition challenging the government's milestones and policies as the state marks 1,000 days under its rule.
