The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has officially postponed the written examination for the Assistant Education Development Officer (AEDO) 2025 recruitment. The decision, citing unavoidable circumstances, impacts lakhs of aspirants across the state.
Exam Schedule and Official Communication
The AEDO written test was originally planned to be conducted in multiple phases from January 10 to January 16, 2026, with January 14 excluded. The commission has now deferred this schedule. While a new set of dates has not been released, BPSC has promised to announce the revised timetable on its official website soon.
Authorities have clarified that no other changes to the examination process have been made at this stage. Candidates have been strongly advised to monitor the commission's online portal for updates, as no individual intimation will be sent.
Massive Scale of the BPSC AEDO Recruitment Drive
This postponed exam is a key part of one of BPSC's largest recruitment campaigns in recent years, aiming to fill 935 Assistant Education Development Officer posts in Bihar. The drive witnessed an overwhelming response, with approximately 9.7 lakh (970,000) applicants submitting their forms in the initial round.
Due to the enormous interest, the commission took the rare step of reopening the application window. This final opportunity was provided from December 5 to December 12, 2025, allowing more candidates to apply under the same eligibility conditions.
Vacancy Distribution and Eligibility Norms
The 935 vacancies are distributed across various categories as per state government reservation rules:
- Unreserved: 374 posts
- Economically Weaker Section (EWS): 93 posts
- Scheduled Caste (SC): 150 posts
- Scheduled Tribe (ST): 10 posts
- Economically Backward Classes (EBC): 168 posts
- Backward Classes (BC): 112 posts
- Backward Classes Women (BCW): 28 posts
To be eligible, candidates must possess a bachelor's degree from a recognized university. The age criteria require a minimum of 21 years. For unreserved male candidates, the upper age limit is 37 years, with relaxations applicable for reserved categories as per government norms.
What Aspirants Need to Do Now
With the exam postponed, candidates must avoid speculation and rely solely on official BPSC communications. The commission has emphasized that the official website is the only authentic source for the revised exam schedule and any further instructions.
Selected candidates will be appointed at Level-5 of the state pay matrix, with a starting salary of ₹29,200 per month. This pay scale is subject to revisions based on future government decisions.
All aspirants are advised to use this additional time for thorough preparation and to keep their application details handy for future reference.
