Harish Rao: Gram Panchayat Results Show Congress Losing Rural Grip in Telangana
BRS Sees Gram Panchayat Wins as Verdict Against Congress

Senior Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former minister T Harish Rao declared on Thursday that the recently concluded gram panchayat election results serve as a strong indicator of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy's declining popularity and rising dissatisfaction among Telangana's rural population with the Congress administration.

A Verdict from the Villages

Addressing a gathering of BRS-supported sarpanches in the Medak constituency, Harish Rao extended his congratulations to the winning candidates. He emphasized that their success was achieved despite what he described as the ruling party's blatant misuse of power and state machinery during the electoral process.

Harish Rao pointed out a significant shift in the traditional electoral pattern. "Historically, the party in power manages to secure between 80 to 90 percent of the sarpanch seats," he stated. "However, this time, even with the Chief Minister himself actively campaigning and alleged violations of the election code of conduct, the Congress was restricted to winning less than 50 percent of the seats. In contrast, candidates backed by the BRS won over 40 percent."

He framed this outcome not merely as an electoral victory but as a clear political message. "This is a decisive verdict delivered by the people of Telangana against the Congress government," the senior BRS leader asserted.

Unfulfilled Promises and Misplaced Priorities

Harish Rao launched a sharp critique of the Congress government's performance since taking office, focusing on its flagship promises. He alleged that the implementation of the party's much-publicized six guarantees has been largely ineffective and incomplete.

"The assurance of providing 42 percent reservation for Backward Classes remains unfulfilled," he claimed. He further accused the government of stalling the Rythu Bandhu financial assistance scheme for farmers and stated that farm loan waivers have reached fewer than half of the eligible beneficiaries.

The former minister also accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of having skewed priorities. "On one side, the government claims it lacks the funds to disburse pensions or provide crop bonus payments to farmers," Harish Rao said. "On the other side, it is spending hundreds of crores of rupees on promoting football events and organizing beauty pageants." He concluded that the public is suffering the consequences while the administration focuses on what he termed "vanity projects and grand spectacles."

Implications for Future Elections

Harish Rao contended that the Congress government has been unsettled by the BRS's robust performance in the rural local body polls. He speculated that this fear of the opposition's growing momentum might lead the state government to delay the upcoming elections for Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTC) and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTC).

The BRS leader's statements highlight the emerging political narrative in Telangana, where the opposition is seeking to capitalize on perceived governance gaps and rally rural support against the Congress regime. The gram panchayat results have undoubtedly intensified the political discourse in the state.
