Former minister T Harish Rao has announced that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government would scrap the Future City project and restore the Green Pharma City after coming to power. Speaking at a meet-and-greet program with Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) in New Jersey, USA, Harish Rao accused the state government of engaging in real estate business under the guise of the Future City project.
Land Acquisition and Environmental Clearance
Harish Rao stated that the previous BRS government had acquired 16,500 acres of land for the Hyderabad Green Pharma City. The Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) had granted conditional Environmental Clearance (EC) for the Pharma City. He emphasized that if the state government violates the purpose for which the land was acquired from farmers and uses it for other purposes, the land must be returned to the farmers as per the new Land Acquisition Act enacted by Parliament.
Allegations Against Congress Government
The former minister alleged that while the Congress government claims the Pharma City proposal is still active and has informed the Telangana High Court accordingly, it is actually promoting real estate development under the Future City name. According to the original plan, 75% of the land should be allocated to pharmaceutical companies, with the remaining 25% reserved for civic infrastructure such as residential areas, educational institutions, and hospitals. However, Harish Rao accused the Congress government of using 75% of the land for other purposes and keeping only 25% for the pharmaceutical sector.
BRS Vision for Pharma Industry
Harish Rao highlighted that the BRS government aimed to encourage the pharmaceutical industry to boost the economy and create employment opportunities for local youth. He expressed disappointment that the Congress government is converting the land for real estate purposes instead. The BRS leader reiterated the party's commitment to restoring the Green Pharma City project to its original vision, focusing on industrial growth and job creation.
