New Delhi: In a narrow escape, several residents were rescued after being evacuated just moments before a four-storey residential building collapsed in northeast Delhi’s Karawal Nagar on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred in the Prakash Vihar area, with information about the collapse received around 6.38 pm.
Cause of the Collapse
A preliminary inquiry revealed that construction and repair work on a nearby drain was being carried out by a civic department of Uttar Pradesh. This work is suspected to have weakened the foundation of the building, leading to the collapse.
Timely Evacuation Prevents Tragedy
Residents reportedly noticed cracks developing in the structure around 3 pm and immediately alerted the authorities. Acting swiftly, the building was evacuated well before the collapse, helping avert what could have been a major tragedy. Police confirmed that no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.
The local administration has cordoned off the area and is conducting further investigations to determine the exact cause of the collapse. Meanwhile, displaced residents have been provided temporary shelter and assistance.
