The swearing-in ceremony followed the May 4 election results, which saw Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam emerge as the single largest party in the state assembly. In his first speech after taking charge, Vijay announced a key welfare measure: domestic consumers would receive free electricity for up to 200 units. This announcement was one of the first decisions of his new administration.

Kamal Haasan was among the first prominent personalities to congratulate Vijay. Posting on X, the veteran actor and politician expressed his hopes for the state's future under the new leadership. Trisha Krishnan attended the ceremony at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai. When reporters asked about the event, she simply said, "Thank you, looking forward," before entering the venue.

Addressing supporters after taking the oath, Vijay thanked party workers and the people for placing their trust in him, as reported by News 18. "You have given me a huge responsibility. But my request to you is to give me some time," Vijay said in his speech, before adding, "I will never make a mistake." "There were many problems and many insults that I faced. You considered these problems and insults as our own and faced them on my behalf," he added. "As far as Tamil Nadu is concerned, I won't hide things or shy away from you," the 'Jana Nayagan' actor said.
Women's Safety Among Top Priorities
Vijay said his government would focus strongly on women's safety, fight drug-related crimes, and ensure welfare benefits reached every section of society. "I will focus on women's safety," Vijay said. On the cinema front, Vijay will next be seen in 'Jana Nayagan,' his highly anticipated upcoming release.
