A tragic accident occurred in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district on Monday when a car veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge, resulting in the deaths of several passengers and injuries to others. The incident took place near the village of Kihar in the Chamba district, approximately 500 kilometers from the state capital Shimla.
Details of the Accident
According to local police, the vehicle was carrying around eight to ten passengers when it lost control on a sharp curve and fell into the gorge, which is estimated to be about 200 meters deep. The car was completely damaged in the fall. Rescue teams, including local police and villagers, reached the spot and began search and rescue operations. So far, the bodies of four victims have been recovered, while several others have been injured and rushed to the nearest hospital. The injured are reported to be in critical condition.
Rescue Operations
State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been deployed to assist in the rescue efforts. The operation is challenging due to the steep terrain and the depth of the gorge. The district administration has announced compensation for the families of the deceased and the injured.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister expressed grief over the incident and instructed officials to ensure prompt medical treatment for the injured. He also directed the administration to investigate the cause of the accident.
