Panaji: The Carambolim gram sabha convened on Sunday and approved the annual income and expenditure statement for the fiscal year 2025-26. Additionally, the assembly passed the audit report for the year 2024-25, ensuring financial transparency and accountability for the village.
Supplementary Development Plan Approved
The gram sabha also gave its nod to a supplementary development plan aimed at addressing additional infrastructure needs. Discussions were held on issues raised during the Bal and Mahila gram sabha meetings, with Sarpanch Kusta Salelkar stating that the points raised would be thoroughly examined by the members.
Crematorium Upgradation Demanded
A resident raised concerns about the condition of the local crematorium, demanding its upgradation. Sarpanch Salelkar responded that a team would first inspect the crematorium, and after a detailed discussion, a decision regarding its repairs and development would be made.
Garbage Dumping and Unhygienic Conditions
Another resident, John Lobo, highlighted the issue of open garbage dumping, which has created unhygienic conditions, particularly affecting a school located near the waste-dumping site. Lobo noted that parents of students had filed complaints, blaming the local authorities for the situation.
Littering Around Carambolim Lake
Locals also pointed out that liquor bottles are being discarded around the Carambolim lake, marring its beauty and posing environmental hazards. The sarpanch informed that the matter has been taken up with the Water Resources Department (WRD), but no response has been received yet. A reminder has been sent, and the sarpanch expressed hope that cleaning operations would commence soon.
