The Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) has launched a major crackdown on electricity theft across its operational area in Karnataka. In a coordinated operation, the utility's vigilance department identified and penalized numerous cases of illegal power connections.
Widespread Raids Across Five Districts
Officials from CESC's Vigilance Department formed eight special teams to conduct simultaneous raids. The operation covered a wide geographical area, including the districts of Mysuru, Hassan, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, and Kodagu. All these regions fall under the jurisdiction of the CESC, which is responsible for power distribution.
Substantial Penalties Imposed
The drive proved highly effective, resulting in legal action against offenders. Authorities filed a total of 31 separate cases against those found stealing electricity. In addition to the legal proceedings, the corporation imposed significant financial penalties. The total fine collected from the violators amounted to ₹2.17 lakh.
A Stern Warning Against Power Theft
This large-scale operation, concluded on 22 December 2025, sends a clear message about the seriousness of electricity theft. Illegal connections not only cause revenue loss for the power distribution company but also pose serious safety hazards, including the risk of fires and electrocution. The CESC has indicated that such vigilance drives will continue in the future to ensure a fair system for all paying consumers and to maintain the integrity of the power distribution network.
The crackdown was carried out under the supervision of relevant officials, highlighting the corporation's commitment to curbing commercial losses and improving operational efficiency.
