Chandigarh's Second Liquor Vends Auction Yields Rs 62.38 Crore

The second round of e-auction for retail liquor vends in Chandigarh has concluded with significant financial success, generating Rs 62.38 crore from 11 vends. This amount is 15.64% higher than the reserve price of Rs 53.94 crore, as confirmed by UT officials on Wednesday.

Strong Bidding Interest and Participation Fees

A total of 19 bids were received during this round, with the Administration also collecting Rs 38 lakh as participation fees. This follows a highly successful first round held on March 19, where the Excise and Taxation Department received 195 bids for 82 vends, resulting in revenue of Rs 487.68 crore against a reserve price of Rs 376.24 crore—an increase of nearly 29%. Participation fees from the first round amounted to Rs 3.90 crore.

Combined Revenue and Future Prospects

When combined, the two auction rounds have fetched a total of Rs 550.06 crore from 93 vends, surpassing the combined reserve price of Rs 430.18 crore by 28%. The department has earned Rs 4.28 crore in participation fees so far. UT officials have expressed confidence in the continued strong bidder interest, noting that the tendering process for the remaining four licensing units has already been initiated.
