Southern Railway Restores Full Suburban Schedule on Chennai Beach-Tambaram Route
In a significant development for daily commuters, Southern Railway has announced the complete restoration of regular train operations on the crucial Tambaram-Chennai Beach suburban corridor. This move comes as a major relief for thousands of passengers who rely on this 29-kilometer stretch for their daily transportation needs.
Accelerated Restoration Ahead of Schedule
The railway authorities have confirmed that the regular schedule will be reinstated starting Friday, which is two days ahead of the originally planned deadline. This proactive approach demonstrates Southern Railway's commitment to minimizing inconvenience for suburban train users in the Chennai metropolitan area.
Comprehensive Service Restoration Details
The restored operations will include 212 services in both up and down directions on this vital suburban route. Specifically, 106 trains will originate from Chennai Beach station bound for Tambaram, while another 106 services will operate in the return direction from Tambaram to Chennai Beach.
Key extensions have also been reinstated:
- Regular extensions up to Chengalpet
- Services to Kancheepuram
- Operations to Tirumalpet
- Trains to Arakkonam
These extensions will resume exactly as they were operated until February 20, ensuring comprehensive connectivity for commuters across the broader suburban network.
Sunday Schedule Also Restored
In addition to the weekday services, Southern Railway has reinstated the Sunday schedule comprising 189 trains on the same stretch. This ensures consistent weekend transportation options for passengers who travel on Sundays for work, leisure, or other purposes.
Discontinuation of Fast Local Services
With the complete restoration of regular train operations, Southern Railway will cease operating the fast local services that were temporarily introduced to mitigate commuter inconvenience during the schedule disruption period. The return to the standard schedule eliminates the need for these alternative arrangements.
