Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Tuesday initiated a significant project aimed at facilitating Hajj pilgrims from the state. He laid the foundation stone for the new Tamil Nadu Hajj House, strategically located near Chennai International Airport in the Nanganallur area.
A Major Infrastructure Boost for Pilgrims
This new facility represents a substantial investment in improving the travel experience for Muslim devotees undertaking the sacred Hajj journey. According to an official state government press release, the project will be constructed at a cost of ₹39.2 crore. The building will come up on a one-acre plot and is designed as a five-storeyed structure.
The primary function of the Hajj House will be to provide comfortable accommodation for pilgrims immediately before their flight. The building is planned to have 100 rooms with a total capacity to accommodate 400 pilgrims. This setup is expected to significantly ease the logistical challenges faced during departure.
Streamlining the Pilgrimage Journey
The establishment of this dedicated facility is designed to eliminate last-minute travel hassles. As per the announced plan, pilgrims scheduled for Hajj will be required to approach the Tamil Nadu Hajj Committee one day prior to their journey. They must bring all relevant travel documents to seek permission for their stay at the Hajj House.
By staying at this dedicated facility, pilgrims can avoid the rush and stress of traveling long distances to the airport on the day of their departure. This centralized lodging will allow for organized transportation and ensure a smoother, more peaceful start to their spiritual journey.
Fulfilling a Promised Commitment
The foundation-laying ceremony marks the materialization of an announcement made by Chief Minister Stalin earlier this year. He had first revealed the plans to construct the Tamil Nadu Hajj House during a government function in Nagapattinam on March 3. The project underscores the state government's focus on creating supportive infrastructure for religious pilgrimages.
The new Hajj House near Chennai airport is poised to become a vital hub, offering essential services and a restful environment for hundreds of pilgrims annually as they embark on one of the most important journeys of their faith.
