Chhattisgarh Implements Strict LPG Rationing Amid Global Supply Crisis
In response to severe disruptions in cooking gas supply chains triggered by the escalating Middle East crisis, the Chhattisgarh government has enacted emergency measures to manage LPG distribution across the state. The administration has imposed a stringent cap on commercial LPG consumers, limiting their supply to just 20% of their previous month's consumption. This decisive action aims to prevent shortages and ensure that essential services remain operational during this period of heightened demand and constrained availability.
Priority-Based Distribution System Established
To streamline the allocation of limited LPG resources, the state has developed a comprehensive priority list for distribution. Hospitals, educational institutions, and security forces have been placed at the top of this list, recognizing their critical role in public welfare and safety. Food Secretary Reena Baba Saheb Kangale, who recently assessed LPG stocks with regional heads of oil companies, emphasized that the revised system will provide restricted refills for commercial establishments while guaranteeing priority access for vital institutions.
"Under the revised system, commercial establishments will receive restricted refills, while critical institutions such as hospitals, schools, military and paramilitary camps, prisons, and government-run facilities will be prioritized," Kangale stated in an official release. The priority categories have been expanded to include railway and airport canteens, social welfare institutions, animal feed units, hotels, and restaurants, though their supply will be carefully regulated based on actual availability.
Enhanced Monitoring and Public Order Measures
State officials clarified that these measures are specifically designed to maintain uninterrupted domestic LPG supply while preventing any disruption to essential services. To improve household access, the food department has implemented fixed timelines for refill bookings: within 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural regions. This standardization aims to create more predictable supply cycles and reduce uncertainty for consumers.
District administrations have received directives to deploy police and home guard personnel at LPG distributor points and warehouses to prevent overcrowding and maintain public order. Distributors have been instructed to keep helplines active and address consumer complaints promptly to minimize public inconvenience.
Daily Stock Monitoring Implemented
The Chhattisgarh government has established a rigorous daily monitoring mechanism to track LPG availability. Oil companies are now required to review commercial LPG stock levels and distribution patterns every single day, submitting detailed reports to the food department. This enhanced oversight will enable authorities to make data-driven decisions and respond quickly to emerging supply challenges.
These comprehensive measures reflect the state's proactive approach to managing the cascading effects of international conflicts on local essential commodities.
