A seemingly trivial demand for a chicken leg piece turned a wedding celebration in Gorakhpur into a scene of deadly violence late Friday night. The incident occurred under the Shahpur police station limits during the marriage ceremony of a municipal employee's daughter.

According to police and eyewitnesses, the tension began with a disagreement over the selection of DJ songs. However, the situation escalated dramatically during dinner when a guest from the bride's side reportedly objected to not receiving a chicken leg piece. This objection quickly spiraled into a full-blown confrontation.
Weapons Used in the Clash
The wedding venue transformed into a battlefield as both sides allegedly began pelting stones and attacking each other with belts, bamboo sticks, and even swords. Guests scrambled for safety as the violence unfolded. In the chaos, Sumit (25), a guest from the groom's side, sustained severe injuries. He was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his wounds during treatment. Another youth, identified only as Nepali, remains in critical condition.

Family members revealed that Sumit had been married just three months ago and worked at a mobile phone shop to support his family. His untimely death has left his loved ones devastated.
Wedding Proceeded Despite Tragedy
Despite the deadly clash, elders from both families decided to continue with the wedding ceremony, ensuring the marriage was solemnized. Police have registered a case based on a complaint filed by the victim's family. Utilizing CCTV footage, authorities have arrested seven individuals involved in the clash. The body of Sumit has been sent for postmortem examination. SP City Nimish Patil stated that no deep injury marks were found on the body, indicating that the cause of death might be internal injuries or shock.
