Tragic Death of Five-Year-Old at Bihar Residential School Hostel Sparks Outrage

A heart-wrenching incident has shaken the Jehanabad district of Bihar, where a five-year-old UKG student allegedly sustained fatal knife injuries at a residential school hostel. The child, identified as Ashu Kumar, succumbed to his injuries on Monday while being transported to Patna Medical College and Hospital, triggering massive protests and highway blockades by grieving family members.

Timeline of the Tragic Incident

The sequence of events began when Ashu Kumar, who had been admitted to the residential school just ten days prior, was found with severe injuries. According to family accounts, they received a call from the hostel management around 6 AM informing them that the child's health had deteriorated and he was being taken to Sadar Hospital.

When family members reached the hospital, they were horrified to discover multiple injury marks on the young boy's body. Despite being referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment, Ashu tragically passed away during the journey.

Conflicting Narratives and Police Investigation

Jehanabad SDPO Manish Chandra Chaudhary revealed that conflicting versions have emerged regarding the incident. "Different aspects are emerging in the case," Chaudhary stated. "On one hand, the family members are suspecting murder of the child, while the hostel management claims that the child was injured after falling from the stairs."

The police have taken the hostel in-charge into custody for detailed interrogation and have sealed the three-story building premises where more than 100 children were staying. Several other hostel staff members reportedly fled the scene following the incident.

Family Allegations and Immediate Aftermath

Ashu's father, Dhananjay Kumar, a resident of Bulaki Bigha village in the Karauna police station area, has filed a formal FIR against the hostel administration. He has strongly alleged negligence on the part of the hostel staff, claiming their carelessness directly contributed to his son's death.

The tragedy sparked immediate protests, with family members and local supporters blocking the crucial Gaya-Patna National Highway (NH-22) to demand swift action against those responsible. Police intervention was required to eventually calm the protesters and clear the highway.

Broader Impact and Ongoing Investigation

The incident has created widespread panic among other parents, many of whom immediately withdrew their children from the hostel facility. The SDPO confirmed that the child's body was handed over to the family after postmortem examination, noting that the exact cause of death would be determined once the autopsy report is finalized.

This tragic case has highlighted serious concerns about safety protocols and supervision at residential educational facilities, particularly those catering to young children. The investigation continues as authorities work to uncover the truth behind the conflicting accounts and ensure justice for the deceased child and his grieving family.
