Union minister and LJP(RV) chief Chirag Paswan on Monday urged the Bihar state government to ensure that no injustice is meted out to poor or deserving families during the ongoing action against illegal structures on government land. Speaking to reporters at Patna airport, Paswan responded to Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary's statement on Sunday that all such encroachments would be removed.
Demand for Rehabilitation Before Demolition
Chirag Paswan said his party has consistently demanded that alternative housing be arranged before demolishing homes of poor families. He urged the NDA government to carry out the drive with sensitivity while upholding the rule of law. He stressed that the administration must ensure that homes of families with valid legal rights are not demolished.
Need for Sensitivity in Enforcement
Reacting to the ongoing action, Paswan said steps against illegal constructions are necessary and the state government has the right to act firmly. However, he emphasized that the poor should not be harassed in the name of enforcement. He termed demolition without rehabilitation as unjust and called for a balanced approach.
Concerns Over Liquor Prohibition
On the liquor prohibition law in force since April 2016, Paswan said the intent behind the law is not flawed but its implementation needs correction. He noted that incidents of spurious liquor have devastated many families, highlighting gaps in enforcement. He added that liquor smuggling from border areas remains a serious concern and requires strict vigilance.
According to Paswan, the policy will succeed only with effective grassroots implementation and stringent action against illegal networks. He called for better coordination between state agencies to curb the menace.
