Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) Chitra Wagh has formally approached the Pune city police, urging them to take legal action against a medical practitioner. The politician alleges the doctor has been engaged in a campaign to defame her by uploading misleading videos and giving interviews to news channels.
Police Complaint Lodged After Meeting
Chitra Wagh escalated the matter by meeting with senior police officers on Tuesday morning. The complaint centers on the doctor's public statements, which Wagh claims are fabricated and damaging to her reputation. According to initial information gathered by the police, the medical practitioner at the center of the controversy is married and has been facing domestic issues.
A police officer revealed a significant detail, stating, "Her in-laws are relatives of an MLA from the Vidarbha region." The officer further elaborated on the doctor's account, saying, "The doctor claimed that she met Wagh, who advised her to file for a divorce due to the domestic issues." This alleged advice forms a core part of the doctor's narrative against the BJP leader.
Chitra Wagh's Firm Denial
Chitra Wagh has categorically and strongly denied these allegations. She insists that the entire premise of the doctor's claim is false. "The woman has levelled serious allegations against me, whereas she has never met me," Wagh stated clearly. She provided an alternative version of events to explain any possible connection.
According to Wagh, the doctor only spoke to one of her team members. "She spoke to one of my team members, who told her to visit the police station and lodge a complaint. I never told her to file for a divorce," the MLC emphasized. She clarified her standard operating procedure when dealing with such cases, highlighting her role in assisting women in distress.
Standard Protocol for Handling Complaints
Explaining her team's approach, Chitra Wagh added, "I help women in distress, and my colleagues look after the complaints and advise them to visit the police station. We never suggest anything directly." This statement underscores her position that while her office provides a channel for guidance towards official legal recourse, it does not offer personal advice on matters like divorce.
The case now rests with the Pune city police, who will investigate the claims and counterclaims from both sides. The situation highlights the challenges public figures face with allegations made through digital and media platforms. The outcome of the police inquiry will determine whether the videos and interviews constitute defamation or are based on the doctor's personal experience.
