Telangana Chief Minister Sets Political Battle in Siddipet, Vows Congress Comeback in 2029
In a bold political move, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday escalated the stakes in Siddipet, declaring that the Congress party will return to power in the state in 2029. Addressing a farmers' gathering at Narmetta in Siddipet district, Reddy made a significant promise: a ministerial berth to whoever defeats Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader T Harish Rao in the Siddipet constituency during the next election.
Challenging Single-Family Dominance in Siddipet
Revanth Reddy emphasized that Congress is determined to secure victory in Siddipet, arguing that the constituency must move beyond the prolonged dominance of a single political family. He pointed out that one family has been ruling Siddipet since 1984 and urged voters to consider giving others an opportunity to represent them. This statement was a direct critique of the BRS and its leadership, particularly targeting Harish Rao, who has been a prominent figure in the region.
Contrasting Congress and BRS Approaches to Development
The Chief Minister contrasted the Congress government's approach with that of the previous BRS administration. He asserted that Congress has consistently stood by the people on critical issues linked to major projects, such as Mallannasagar. Reddy highlighted the Narayanpet-Kodangal project, noting that it was initiated only after convincing and addressing the concerns of displaced individuals. He accused the opposition of shedding "crocodile tears" over the Musi issue, suggesting insincerity in their criticisms.
Defending Welfare Policies and Rejecting Bias Allegations
Revanth Reddy clarified that political differences with BRS leaders K Chandrasekhar Rao, KT Rama Rao, and Harish Rao do not hinder his government's commitment to welfare and development. He cited the Narmetta oil palm factory as an example, explaining that work on this project began only after he assumed office as Chief Minister. The factory was established in Narmetta specifically to benefit local farmers, rather than being relocated elsewhere for political motives.
Furthermore, Reddy addressed allegations of bias toward his own constituency, Kodangal. He challenged critics to compare the funds allocated to Kodangal between 2014 and 2023 under the previous government with those released after Congress came to power. He firmly stated that his administration does not practice discrimination and works diligently for the poor and marginalized, rather than favoring political leaders.
Commitment to Equitable Development and Poverty Alleviation
The Chief Minister reiterated his government's dedication to equitable development across all constituencies. He mentioned that an equal number of housing units (3,000) under the Indiramma scheme have been allocated to these regions. Reddy appealed to officials not to discriminate in fund allocation and emphasized that politics should only matter during elections. His primary duty, he stressed, is to ensure that every poor person benefits from government initiatives.
Revanth Reddy concluded by highlighting the plight of the impoverished in Kodangal, noting that they are now beginning to breathe easier under his administration. He questioned the logic of discrimination, asking, "If I discriminate about these three constituencies, what about the poor and marginalized in these regions?" This statement underscored his focus on inclusive growth and social justice.
