Jharkhand Chief Minister Calls for Vigilance Ahead of Electoral Roll Revision
Ranchi: In a significant move ahead of the proposed Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Jharkhand, Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday issued a strong directive to party cadres, urging them to remain sensitive and committed to ensuring that no eligible voter is excluded in their respective areas.
Party Workers Mobilized for Democratic Safeguarding
Addressing workers on the concluding day of the JMM's two-day orientation program, Soren emphasized the need for a different kind of fight for the public. "We must rise to the occasion to ensure that as and when the SIR is rolled out, no eligible person is robbed of their democratic right. It should be our duty to protect it. Be aware, and vigilant so that no single voter is left out," he stated firmly.
Workers from all 24 districts of Jharkhand, along with party MPs and MLAs, attended the intensive program held in Ranchi. Party sources revealed that the meeting included detailed deliberations on the current political landscape in the country and the JMM's official stance on key issues.
Learning from Past Experiences in Neighboring States
Citing concerning instances of mass deletions from voter lists during similar SIR exercises in Bihar and West Bengal, Chief Minister Soren directed party units to initiate mobilization efforts from the booth level up to district levels. This strategy aims to ensure that workers are fully informed about the dos and don'ts of the revision process.
"Besides focusing on urban areas, the party must also be prepared to reach out to people in rural and remote areas where a majority may not be aware of the intricacies of SIR and the processes to prove their legitimacy while filling up various forms," the CM elaborated.
Allegations of Conspiracy Against Marginalized Communities
In a pointed accusation, Hemant Soren claimed that the BJP is conspiring to deprive poor, Dalits, tribals, and backward communities of their voting rights under the guise of the SIR. He warned that such exclusion could also lead to these groups failing to receive essential benefits like ration cards and pensions.
"JMM must be ready to discharge its responsibility for the public interest," he added, reinforcing the party's commitment to safeguarding democratic participation.
The Chief Minister's call to action underscores a proactive approach to voter inclusion, setting the stage for heightened political engagement as Jharkhand prepares for the critical electoral roll revision.
