Congress Demands Immediate Start of Tikri Border ISBT Project, Warns of Protest
Cong Seeks Immediate Start of Tikri Border ISBT Project

The Congress party in Delhi has urged the city government to immediately start work on the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) project at Tikri border, warning of a protest if the demand is not met. In a statement, Delhi Congress chief said the project has been pending for years and its delay is causing inconvenience to commuters.

Long-Pending Demand

The Tikri border ISBT project was first proposed several years ago to decongest the existing bus terminals and provide better connectivity for interstate travelers. However, due to bureaucratic hurdles and lack of political will, the project has not taken off. Congress leaders alleged that the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has been neglecting the project, which is crucial for residents of west Delhi and nearby areas.

Congress's Ultimatum

Delhi Congress chief said that if the government does not start the construction within a week, the party will launch a protest at the site. He added that the party will also approach the Lieutenant Governor if necessary. The Congress has been raising the issue in the Delhi Assembly and through public campaigns.

Importance of the Project

The proposed ISBT at Tikri border is expected to handle a large volume of buses coming from Haryana, Rajasthan, and other states. It will also reduce traffic congestion on the Delhi-Haryana border and provide modern amenities for passengers. The project includes a multi-level parking facility, waiting lounges, and food courts.

Government's Response

So far, the Delhi government has not issued any official response to the Congress's demand. However, sources indicate that the project is in the planning stage and land acquisition issues are being resolved. The Congress, however, remains skeptical and has called for immediate action.

Congress workers are ready to mobilize if the government fails to act, the party leader warned. The party also plans to involve local residents and commuters in the protest to highlight the urgency of the project.
