Congress Corporators Seek Union Minister's Intervention for Stalled Nagpur Infrastructure
Alleging prolonged administrative neglect and apathy, Congress corporators from Prabhag 8 in Nagpur have formally approached Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, seeking his urgent intervention to expedite long-pending infrastructure work between Kadbi Chowk and Golibar Chowk.
Delegation Submits Memorandum Highlighting Critical Delays
The delegation, led by corporator Wasim Khan and including Siraj Ahmed Ansari, Syed Muskan, and Sayyeda Begum Nizamuddin Ansari, submitted a detailed memorandum to the minister. They emphasized that road construction beneath the bridge from Moti Bagh to Mominpura and Golibar Chowk has remained incomplete for multiple years, causing severe daily inconvenience to thousands of commuters.
The corporators also flagged significant and concerning delays in the crucial railway overbridge (ROB) project. Minister Gadkari himself had performed the bhoomi puja for this ambitious 2.82-kilometer, two-lane ROB, valued at approximately Rs 146 crore, in mid-2021. The project was assigned to the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (MahaRail) with an original scheduled completion date of December 2022. However, the structure remains unfinished well past its deadline.
Worsening Ground Conditions and Public Health Risks
According to the memorandum, the protracted delays have drastically worsened on-ground conditions for local residents. Key issues highlighted include:
- Incomplete RCC drainage work leading to persistent waterlogging and foul odours along several stretches of the corridor.
- Intensified traffic congestion, transforming the area into a major bottleneck and causing daily snarls.
- Deteriorating road surfaces adding to commuter woes and vehicle damage.
The corporators issued a stern warning that the stagnant water and poor sanitation resulting from incomplete drainage pose serious public health risks, a threat that becomes particularly acute during the monsoon season. Residents continue to grapple with these compounded problems daily.
Demand for Accountability and Time-Bound Completion
Criticising what they described as poor inter-departmental coordination and a complete lack of accountability among executing agencies, the Congress corporators put forth clear demands. They called for a strict, time-bound completion schedule for the pending ROB, road, and drainage works.
The delegation urgently appealed to Union Minister Gadkari to personally intervene and direct the concerned authorities to expedite all stalled projects on this crucial urban route. They stressed that immediate relief is not just a matter of convenience but a necessity for the well-being and mobility of Nagpur's citizens, underscoring the critical need for administrative action to resolve the long-standing infrastructure impasse.
