Congress Files Formal Complaint Against BJP's Rajeev Chandrasekhar Over Undisclosed Assets
In a significant development ahead of the elections, the Congress party has filed a formal complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) alleging that BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar, who is contesting from the Nemom assembly constituency, concealed assets worth crores of rupees in his election affidavit.
Allegations of Concealed Luxury Property
According to the detailed complaint submitted by Congress, a luxury bungalow valued at approximately Rs 200 crore was deliberately omitted from Chandrasekhar's asset declaration. The property in question is a sprawling 49,000 square foot bungalow located in Koramangala Third Block in Bengaluru, one of India's most expensive residential areas.
The complaint specifically notes that the property sits on 1.07 acres of prime land where current market rates range between Rs 35,000 and Rs 50,000 per square foot. Based on these prevailing rates, the land alone is estimated to be worth approximately Rs 200 crore, making this a significant omission from the candidate's financial disclosure.
Documentary Evidence Presented
Congress has provided specific documentation to support their allegations, including:
- Property number 408 with application number 1600322463 for verification
- Tax receipts showing the latest payment made on March 17, just six days before the complaint was filed
- Address verification showing the same property listed as Chandrasekhar's residence in his 2024 affidavit
"The tax was paid just six days ago on March 17, which you can verify yourself," Congress stated in their complaint. "If there is any doubt whether this belongs to the same Rajeev Chandrasekhar, his 2024 affidavit lists the same address as his residence."
Pattern of Misleading Declarations Alleged
The complaint goes further to allege that Chandrasekhar has established a pattern of misleading the Election Commission of India. Despite being recognized as a wealthy industrialist, his affidavit reportedly claims he does not own either a house or a car, raising serious questions about the completeness and accuracy of his financial disclosures.
"Chandrasekhar is a habitual offender and appears to believe he can mislead Election Commission of India repeatedly," Congress asserted in their formal complaint.
Legal Consequences Sought
Congress has formally requested the Election Commission to take immediate action, including:
- Disqualification of Rajeev Chandrasekhar under provisions of the Representation of the People Act
- Impartial intervention by the Election Commission to investigate the allegations thoroughly
