Gujarat Congress Announces Major Protest Meeting on Assembly Budget Session Opening Day

The Gujarat unit of the Indian National Congress has declared plans to organize a significant public demonstration titled 'Jan Aakrosh Sabha' in Gandhinagar on February 16. This date marks the commencement of the budget session of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, setting the stage for political confrontation.

Congress Leadership Details Protest Agenda

State Congress President Amit Chavda made the announcement during a press conference held at the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) headquarters on Thursday. Chavda emphasized that the protest meeting will serve as a platform to amplify the grievances of multiple segments of Gujarat's population.

The party intends to voice concerns affecting youth, farmers, women, tribal communities, Dalits, small traders, and street vendors during this gathering. Chavda stated that these issues were systematically identified during the party's extensive outreach program across the state.

Preceding Yatra Campaign Culminates in Gandhinagar Protest

The 'Jan Aakrosh Sabha' represents the culmination of a four-phase 'Jan Aakrosh Yatra' conducted by the Congress party throughout Gujarat. According to Chavda, the yatra successfully covered Saurashtra, north Gujarat, and central Gujarat regions.

The final phase of this yatra is scheduled to conclude in south Gujarat on February 13, just three days before the Gandhinagar protest meeting. During these yatras, party workers engaged with citizens and documented numerous complaints and challenges faced by various communities.

"A multitude of issues concerning youth, farmers, women, small traders, street vendors, tribal communities, Dalits, and other marginalized groups were raised during these yatras," Chavda explained to reporters. "We will hold a protest meeting in Gandhinagar to highlight all these pressing concerns on February 16."

Strategic Timing During Budget Session

The selection of February 16 is strategically significant as it coincides with the first day of the Gujarat assembly's budget session. This timing ensures maximum political visibility and media attention for the Congress party's grievances.

The protest meeting is expected to draw participants from across the state, particularly from areas covered by the preceding yatras. The Congress leadership aims to present a unified front highlighting what they describe as the state government's failures in addressing key public concerns.

This political maneuver represents the opposition party's attempt to set the narrative as the state government presents its annual budget, potentially influencing public discourse around fiscal priorities and governance issues in Gujarat.
