Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi has launched a blistering attack on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of disregarding tribal communities and facilitating land transfers to corporate giant Adani Group.
Direct Allegations Against State Government
The Congress MP concluded his two-day tour of Dima Hasao hill district on Friday with strong statements against the ruling BJP government. Gaurav Gogoi directly charged CM Himanta Biswa Sarma with showing complete indifference toward tribal communities while allegedly orchestrating land transfers that benefit industrial conglomerates.
Speaking at a crowded public gathering in Maibang, Gogoi asserted that the Chief Minister's actions demonstrate a pattern of exploiting tribal lands and political allies for personal gain. "The CM does not care for tribal communities and is instead snatching their land to hand it over to the Adani group," the Congress leader stated unequivocally.
Political Betrayal and Public Resistance
Gogoi expanded his criticism to include what he described as political manipulation, citing the treatment of former ally Promod Boro. He accused Sarma of abandoning Boro after using him for political gains, suggesting this was part of a broader pattern of questionable actions by the state government.
Despite what Gogoi characterized as systematic attempts to disrupt Congress programs in the region, he reported overwhelming public participation during his engagements. "Many were intimidated over phone calls. Several obstacles were created so our workers couldn't join. But the people came out fearlessly and proved they will no longer stay silent or indoors," he declared.
Growing Political Momentum in Hill District
The Congress leader expressed strong confidence in his party's resurgent popularity in Dima Hasao, pointing to the substantial turnout and visible public enthusiasm during his visit. Gogoi believes the local population is ready to stand up against fear and strongly reject the policies implemented by the current state administration.
His observations during the two-day tour convinced him that the Congress party is rapidly regaining crucial ground in the strategically important hill district. The massive public response, despite alleged intimidation attempts, signals a shifting political landscape in the region according to the opposition leader.
Gogoi concluded with a warning shot directed at the state government, indicating that the people of Dima Hasao district have found their voice and are prepared to challenge policies they perceive as detrimental to their interests and land rights.
