Jaipur: Rajasthan Congress functionaries, including Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully and PCC chief Govind Singh Dotasra, on Saturday joined MGNREGA workers for a symbolic shramdaan in Farkiya village of Ajmer district. They accused the BJP government in the state and at the Centre of attempting to weaken the rural employment scheme.
Jully, Dotasra, and Congress district presidents from Rajasthan and Delhi performed manual labor alongside MGNREGA laborers and interacted with them to understand their concerns.
Jully stated that the Congress is committed to the welfare of the poorest and alleged that the BJP was trying to dilute MGNREGA, calling it the backbone of rural employment and public welfare.
"Every Congress worker has come with determination to protect the rights of the people and realize Mahatma Gandhi's vision of Sarvodaya," Jully said.
Dotasra targeted the Modi government, alleging it was undermining the scheme. "The Modi government is snatching away the right to work by dismantling MGNREGA, but the Congress party will fight every battle for workers' rights," he said.
Dotasra added that the party would raise labor and rural employment issues in the Rajasthan Assembly and Parliament to ensure workers receive dignity, fair opportunities, and protection of their rights.
