Congress MLA Khaira Exposes Corruption Scandal Involving Suspended BDPO in Punjab

In a shocking revelation, Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira has brought to light another scandal involving Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) Kulwinder Singh Randhawa. This officer, who recently ordered the demolition of a wall at Khaira's residence, was previously suspended in 2023 in connection with the embezzlement of Rs 60 lakh in Khanna.

Corruption Cases and Political Allegations

On Tuesday, Khaira pointed out that a corruption case was registered against Randhawa by the Vigilance Bureau for the misappropriation of ₹40.85 lakh during his tenure as BDPO in Amloh in August 2024. Khaira stated that the ₹60 lakh corruption scam was unearthed by none other than AAP minister Taranpreet Singh Sond.

"It is shocking that an officer who was suspended on corruption charges by his own government has been reinstated and continues to hold office in Kapurthala district," Khaira said. He questioned how a tainted and corrupt officer facing serious allegations of financial irregularities can be entrusted with public office and expected to render justice in administrative matters. He demanded the immediate transfer of the BDPO.

Allegations of Illegal Demolition and Political Vendetta

Khaira alleged that Randhawa illegally and unconstitutionally demolished a portion of his property under a quid pro quo arrangement. He claimed that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann assured the officer that both pending corruption cases against him would be withdrawn if he carried out the demolition of Khaira's property.

"This brazen misuse of power and vindictive action is nothing but political vendetta. The demolition was carried out without due process of law and in complete violation of constitutional safeguards," he said.

Unanswered Calls and Ongoing Controversy

Repeated calls and a message to BDPO Randhawa regarding these allegations remained unanswered, adding to the controversy. The case highlights ongoing issues of corruption and political interference in Punjab's administrative affairs.

The scandal raises serious questions about the integrity of public officials and the accountability mechanisms in place. As the story develops, further investigations are expected to shed light on the extent of the alleged misconduct and its implications for governance in the region.
