Congress slams Goa BJP govt over smart meter U-turn

Margao: GPCC president Girish Chodankar on Saturday hit out at the BJP government over its sudden withdrawal of the smart meter rollout and electricity load penalties, saying that the U-turn following public outrage has exposed the “flawed and anti-consumer” nature of the entire exercise.

Congress criticizes lack of individual notices

The Congress chief pointed out that the electricity department already had access to every consumer’s address, mobile number and billing records, making the failure to issue individual notices inexcusable. “Why was the burden shifted entirely onto ordinary citizens and penalties imposed for alleged non-compliance?” he asked.
